More Lemons original mixed media painting by Polly Jones

More Lemons original mixed media painting, 8" square acrylic and paper on canvas. SOLD

I like using collage as a way to explore ideas about randomness. The different pieces of text used together collide and are changed by the context. In my life it seems like the things that happen can seem arbitrary at times, meaningful at other times. My slant on this is that purpose is not always apparent and most of the time, chaos can add up to a good end.

Today I took a break while working on this painting and called an old friend who is going through incredibly difficult trials. One thing after another has happened to this dear family. I said "I'm praying for you" and wondered if it sounded hollow. They have heard that phrase so often lately. For me, painting and praying are very similar, so I will keep on doing both and hope it eventually makes sense.

Both the depth and the collage elements in this painting are absolutely stunning. Is this one going to etsy?

I feel the same way about painting and prayer.

Thank you Laura. Sometimes I don't feel like I know what I'm doing with these, but I like the direction. I put this one in a show that opens this week. Wish you and John and the girls lived close enough to come to our reception!

I always enjoy your paintings, Polly, and I love reading your articulation of thought behind the journey. Your colors, layers, and textures are so fantastic. I am always inspired, so thank you!

I love this one, Polly! And the one below. I can't wait to see them in real life.

I'm sorry about your friends troubles. There is so much heart-ache in the world. Don't you wish we could pray and paint it all away?

Mixed media is something very difficult to handle. But you have done a good job. .. Very creative and innovative.
