More and more spring flowers

First Bouquet, 20" by 16" acrylic mixed media painting by Polly Jones

Miss Ebbies Iris, 8" by 8" acrylic mixed media on canvas by Polly Jones

With Spiderwort, 8" by 8" acrylic mixed media on canvas by Polly Jones
I"ve been painting more flowers from my garden. Irises, spiderwort, roses and one last daffodil. We had a great time getting together with my brother and sister and their spouses this weekend. My brother showed me the lilac bush he was growing from a starter taken from my parents old lilac bush. Such simple and meaningful connections to our past can come in the shape of flowers. The irises I have were planted in our yard by a couple who built our house and lived in it for decades. I often think of how I reap benefits where I have not sown.  We have so much to be grateful for.

Spring Flowers with Tea by Polly Jones
This is the third commission I've done for a delightful collector. I'm honored to have commissions that have been a part of her Christmas from her husband the past two years. She always emails me images both from her home and some of my past work. It has really become a collaboration and I love her ideas. This painting is 24" by 36" and is mixed media acrylic on canvas.

Some new and some old

Blackberries in a Dragon Bowl by Polly Jones
Hope your 2017 is going well with you! I've been pretty busy so what follows is a partial update. Here is what I've been up to the last part of January. Above is a recent favorite of mine, 6" by 6" mixed media acrylic on canvas is available on Etsy here.
Bouquet with Butterfly Weed by Polly Jones
This may look familiar, I had painted it last spring but after living with it a while, changed up some color in the upper right side. Before it was a green and I like the more simplified look of bright light from the window. Sold.
Carnation Glow by Polly Jones
I cannot believe how long carnations last! I am working on a large painting of the bouquet this little one came from. This is a 6" square on canvas available here.
Coming Home by Polly Jones
"Coming Home" has come home. It was in the "Risk" group exhibit at The Center for Contemporary Arts.
June Sky by Polly Jones
This 8" square mixed media on canvas is on the SX wall at The Center for Contemporary Arts.  I painted this Texas sky from a photograph I took in the summer somewhere between Abilene and Fort Worth.
Pacific Lettered Cone 2 by Polly Jones, Sold

Thinking Fish original still life painting by Polly Jones

Thinking Fish by Polly Jones
It's been a while since I painted my fish. I can't believe how long I've had this one. Her companion didn't last long. They were 25 cent feeder fish destined to a short life. 8" by 8" acrylic mixed media on canvas.

Winter Pink with Pears and other new work

China Sea Sky, 4" by 6" acrylic mixed media by Polly Jones

Saucerless, 6" by 4" acrylic mixed media by Polly Jones

Winter Pink with Pears, 24" by 18" acrylic mixed media by Polly Jones

Winter Pink with Pears, by Polly Jones
My husband and I visited a fabulous show at The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas to see the exhibit "Monet-The Early Years." It was so exciting and inspiring...and also pretty crowded. I came back and finished the above painting with a renewed sense of commitment to pay attention to the surface quality of my paintings and not over working the paint. Winter Pink with Pear is breaking some design rules about putting circles in the middle, cutting edges off and isolating colors but I think it works. Sometimes you have to break the rules.

These are available in my Etsy store here.

104 paintings in 2016

Yellow Teapot in Sunshine, 12" by 12" acrylic mixed media by Polly Jones, Sold

December Orchids, 4" by 12" acrylic mixed media on canvas by Polly Jones
China Sea Sky, 4" by 6" acrylic mixed media by Polly Jones
Hope your new year is off to a fabulous start! I am starting out a little slow, feeling performance anxiety with my art because of some of my high hopes for challenging myself more. The top two are from 2016. I counted up on my website and figure I've painted 104 paintings this past year - which is a personal record. A lot of those were small. My intention is to work larger more often in the coming year. If you want to see the group from 2016 you may find them on my website here:  Polly Jones Art

I am so grateful to be able to spend my time painting. I can't thank you enough in how you support my work by just being interested in it and also buying my art to actually put in your home!
