"Spring Branches" by Polly Jones, 12" by 12" oil on stretched canvas

These branches are from a flowering shrub in our yard. I'm not sure what they are. I want to paint some more of them but they are rapidly blooming and loosing my favorite stage of bud and bare branch. This is a 12" by 12" oil on canvas. I've actually repainted this some since this photograph and haven't really resolved it yet. More to come later, it may be "fall branches" by the time it's done.

"Daffodil on a Pink Flowered Cloth" 8" by 8" oil on masonite

The backs of flowers are so beautiful. For such a delicate creation, flowers are amazingingly strong miracles of engineering. SOLD

"First Daffodil" by Polly Jones 8" by 8" gallery wrapped canvas, no frame needed

I'll never forget my 2nd grade teacher showing us how to draw a daffodil 3-dimensionally. It was the first time I really thought about drawing something from what I saw and not what I knew about it. Her chalkboard drawing was posed just like I posed my daffodil from our backyard.

"Lemons" 6" by 6" oil on masonite by Polly Jones

This painting is a little different vantage point than I've been doing. It was good to step back a bit further, and to do a symetrical composition.

"Big and Little Marble" 6" by 6" oil on canvas

This is a new version of this painting posted on February 27th. One morning I stepped on it with my houseshoes on and had to repaint some areas. Just a reminder that all of these images can be clicked on for a closer look.

Green Apple on Yellow Chintz

Here is an attempt to enjoy the sunshine we had this afternoon. I've often used chintz fabric as a part of still life set-ups. I'm drawn to these designs that are themselves paintings by anonomous artists. (to me anyway) This 8" by 8" painting is on a stretched canvas that has a 1 and 3/8" profile. It looks great without a frame.

"Small Vintage Globe" 6" by 6" oil on stretched canvas

Daily painting gives me time to try out subject matter I would'nt always do. I have a few old globes I've collected; this is the smallest one, a pencil sharpener. I am using a light source from a different angle thanks to the new light stand I scored for $4.00 from Helen's House of Fine Junque. Our church has a mission plan in the works for a year and a half down the road. My family is hoping to participate in some way, so we're excited to be thinking more globally now.

I always think pink lemonade tastes better than regular lemonade. This is using a new color bought today--quinacradone rose. SOLD

"Tape Dispenser" 8" by 8" original oil painting on masonite

SOLD

This is double sticky tape. I'd like to see how they make tape into rolls. I keep using a wintry palette. It's been pretty cold by my studio window this season. I'm going to buy some new colors this week, I hope, and expand my possibilities with oils.

"Silver Sugar Bowl" 12" by 12" stretched canvas oil painting

This was an easy one to paint. I decided in two minutes what to paint, set it up and got to work with my old and scruffy and large bristle brushes. Some paintings I spend some time dithering so I really treasure this kind of experience when it happens.

"Marbles, 2"

Does this look familiar? I have gone back to an earlier acrylic painting that just did'nt have the quality of light I was wanting. It was a good chance to try oils on top of an acrylic underpainting. I like this version better than the first one. This time I used fairly loose painting with largish brushes for the small tight areas.
