Original still life paintings, mixed media, and drawings by artist Polly Jones. Vibrant and colorful explorations and works in progress using acrylic paint and collage.
Interesting. I've seen newspaper prints on images of poplar trees before....the only thing distracting me is that a lot the exposed letters on the pumpkin are continually horizontal where in my mind I feel like they need to curve so the image appears flat. I still like it though.
Hi Crystal--I see what you mean about the horizontal text canceling out the three dimensional effect. I wasn't consciously thinking this while making it, but after the fact I like there being a tension between flatness and an illusion of space. If I did it again I would leave out that whole showing the word "pumpkin" Too corny, maybe. I am so glad you commented. I really crave art conversations.
I really LOVE the “unusual” color combination you used - meaning; not the typical shades of orange. From a decorating perspective, it lengthens the time that it can be displayed (if only using it as seasonal display), bbt one could also certainly leave it up year round. I’m just learning about the mixed media arena and I really enjoy the repurposing of various kinds of paper - and I LOVE books and especially dictionaries. I LOVE this painting - everything about it. Nice job!
